I’ve been working with professionals and leaders throughout the United States for over two decades. Many of my conversations begin with the question, “What do you want to achieve?” Though each had a unique way to describe it, there was a pattern in their responses, and throughout the countless coaching and consulting engagements, everyone’s desired outcome was tied to one or both of these items:
1. Success
Achievement, growth, money, power, freedom, etc.
2. Recognition
Validation, praise, popularity, status, influence, etc.
Another important discovery I made over the years was that beneath the surface and rarely stated, there was a desire to be seen and appreciated for who they were at that moment. They didn’t want to be seen for what they could do or might be able to do in the future; but rather, appreciated, cared for, and loved for who they are right now. Many would set high goals for themselves and appear to others as high achievers, but deep down they longed for appreciation, self- worth, and confidence.
As it turns out, they were not alone. I was seeking the same, but instead of being comforted by the fact that I wasn’t alone, I was driven to do whatever it took to change my life and better help those whom I served. I wondered, what could happen if you and I began really seeing ourselves and genuinely appreciating our own uniqueness? Would it be helpful for us to clarify our uniqueness and learn how to tap into it? Can we give ourselves the appreciation, care, and love that we seek from others? Could this be the answer? Would this help us be more self-confident? And if so, how do we do it?
This book was written to serve as a guide for those who want to achieve more than success and recognition. It is for individuals who want to uncover what they truly seek and tap into their uniqueness, so they can live the life they alone were designed to live – a uniquely aligned life.
If you want to tap into your uniqueness, discover your focus area, share your unique offering with others, and boldly move forward toward your bright vision for the future, this book is for you.
