On the surface, “strategic advice & consulting” is the business of giving expert advice to others, but it is much more than giving advice. Put more simply, a strategic advisor & consultant is an expert you turn to for help with your project, business, or brand.
They use their knowledge, experience, intelligence, and imagination to investigate, understand, and advise on the resolution of problems brought to them by a client. They may also manage the task of resolving the problem.
Having this outside perspective can save you time and money and can often help you realize something you didn’t see before.
Here are 8 functions of a consultant: 1. Providing information to a client. 2. Solving a client’s problems. 3. Making a diagnosis, which may necessitate redefinition of the problem. 4. Making recommendations based on the diagnosis. 5. Assisting with implementation of recommended solutions. 6. Building a consensus and commitment around corrective action. 7. Facilitating client learning—that is, teaching clients how to resolve similar problems in the future. 8. Permanently improving organizational effectiveness.
